This is the aluminum dual-spec bike. Its main frame made this year from Fuji's new X-Fusion Alpha tubes (Just like the $1900 Fuji Team!). Like 853 steel, X-Fusion resists weakening from the heat of the welding torch. A strong tube can be made thin and light. By careful choice of tube size and thickness, a frame can be made to ride gracefully over the road. Like a well-suspended car, not a buckboard. Roubaix parts are comptetion quality Shimano 105 for the most part, except for the very cool Ritchey Pro wheels. The Roubaix crankset is a 105 triple: 27 gears, several of them lower than any gear on an 18-gear bike. If you like to spin the pedals up long grades or if you do big miles in hilly country, you'll love that third chainring. You may have the same riding objectives we mentioned in the Roubaix Pro story. We think you might chose a Roubaix over a Roubaix Pro because you preferred the X-Fusion frame and the gearing. You'd chose a Roubaix because you like X-Fusion's response (same as the $1900 Fuji Team!), as if every bit of effort you put into the pedals moved you instantly forward on the road. You'd also like that third chainring, which frankly wouldn't matter much riding across Ohio. But maybe you're crossing Colorado... |
