If it weren't for the messengers who love these bikes, you could call them old-school. A Fuji Track is an elemental bicycle. It won't coast and it doesn't have multiple gears or even (ohmigosh) brakes! Who would want one? Messengers, as we said. Winter trainers who know that constant high-cadence pedaling keeps them warm and leads to leg-muscle suppleness. Old-school cyclo-commuters, who appreciate the low maintenance and the fixed-gear feeling. That single fixed gear eases the roughness out of your pedaling. It gives you a geared-to-the-road feeling you may love. It gives you control of your bike that no bike with a freewheel can match. Fuji's product staff is largely old-school roadies. They love the Track and its smaller-wheeled Track SE cousin. These bikes are pure fun; It's hard to write about them and not smile. This year, they've made the Track better yet. It's still road geometry, and you can still easily mount brakes. Its frame is now butted Cro-moly steel. It has upgraded bolt-on track hubs, more appropriate (and easily changed) gearing and upgraded aluminum rims. None of that changes the totally delightful character the bike had BEFORE butted tubing and upgraded hubs. Fuji Track. You can too buy love. |
