The replaceable hanger is specifically designed and engineered to bend or break like an electrical fuse in cases of impact, mis-adjustment or mis-shift. The hanger sacrifices itself to reduce the chances of damaging your frame from what might otherwise be non-repairable damage.*
IMPORTANT NOTE: *If one does not stop in time after the hanger breaks or the misshift / impact is too severe, additional parts may be damaged. Broken Derailleur hangers and any incidental or consequential damages are not covered by warranty by any manufacturer or by Bikesdirect.
Helpful tips:
1) If a bike is not shifting correctly or a chain is noisy or skipping, these indicate a tune-up is needed.
2) Bikes should not be ridden until properly adjusted. This is required of all bikes, prior to the first ride.
3) Upon installation of drivetrain parts like a derailleur hanger, the drivetrain should be tuned before riding.
4) All parts require periodic inspection/adjustment/tuning/maintenance, including pre-installed parts
